COVID-19 Vaccinations and More Available at Third Ward Church’s Mega Health Fair

[April 27, 2021] Houston, Texas—If you have been affected by the pandemic, are facing financial hardships or have lost a loved one, the Episcopal Church and corporate sponsors are extending a helping hand.

On Saturday, May 22nd, 2021 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., St. John the Divine and St. James’, Houston, along with HEB, Walgreens, Houston Methodist Hospital, the Bishop of Texas Andy Doyle, and the Episcopal Diocese of Texas, among other sponsors, are hosting a Great Outdoor Health Fair; aiming to bring some relief to the community. Admission to the fair is free and all are welcome. This event will be a COVID-safe space.

Attendees will be able to receive COVID-19 vaccines, high blood pressure and diabetes screenings, HIV and STD testing, mental health services, and wellness support such as meditation, counseling and prayer. In addition, there will be a drive-through food and water distribution, free masks, sanitizing supplies, clothing giveaway and goodie bags, along with music, games and fun activities for adults and children.

Dignitaries who will be present to tout the importance of historic Third Ward in our community, and to promote the fair throughout the day are: the Hon. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, Ph.D., representing District D on City Council, along with other elected officials, lay and clergy leaders of the Episcopal Church.

“It is vitally important to engage with community health partners and social services to attain and maintain a healthy lifestyle and mental health, especially in view of the pandemic and the effects that it has had on the Third Ward community”, said Dr. Evans-Shabazz.

A major highlight of the day will be the introduction of MEGA-COVID, a medical inflatable that you enter to learn more about the dangers of COVID-19, and the importance of getting vaccinated. MEGA-COVID will be on hand throughout the day, and visitors may sign up to receive a guided tour.
