In Memoriam:
The Passing of Former Board Leader and Dedicated Layperson Barbara Neff
Mrs. Barbara Neff passed away last Saturday at the age of 89 in Tyler, Texas. Wife of the late Louis Neff, MD, she was also the mother of five children, including the Rev. Shanna Neff, rector at Episcopal Church of the Messiah in the Diocese of West Texas. Both Shanna and the Neff family have many friends and close ties within the Diocese of Texas. Barbara was a longtime member of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Spring Branch (Houston) where she was active in numerous lay capacities. At the diocesan level, Barbara served as a lay delegate at diocesan Council on more than one occasion and shared her gifts of leadership on various boards including Episcopal Foundation of Texas and Seminary of the Southwest. She was also the board president of Episcopal Church Women (ECW). Barbara further represented the diocese at General Convention.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at 10:30 a.m., Sat., June 24, at St. Francis Episcopal Church with a burial that will take place at a later date. Please keep the Neff family in your thoughts and prayers. Given Barbara’s service to and the family’s long history within our diocese as well as her connection to the Diocese of West Texas, we seek prayers for Shanna, the entire Neff family, and for all those who knew her well. We are grateful for Barbara’s dedicated service and leadership gifts that transcended her church. Read more about Barbara’s legacy at. Read more about Barbara’s legacy here.
