The Union of Black Episcopalians (UBE) continues a tradition of more than 200 years of Black leadership in the Episcopal Church working to remove racism from the Church, promote inclusion and stimulate the growth and development of Black clergy and membership.

This past Sunday, parishes celebrated UBE Sunday. The UBE represents a confederation of more than 57 chapters and affiliates throughout the continental United States and the Caribbean, with membership in Canada, Africa, and Latin America.
St. James’, Houston, was honored to have Sandra Epps, the daughter of the parish’s founder in attendance. Introduced at the Diocesan Council in 1983, the Rev. John Dublin Epps chapter became the first chartered diocesan chapter of the UBE for the state of Texas, by the Diocese of Texas in 1984. The chapter was named in honor of and recognition for the ministry of the Reverend John Dublin Epps, Vicar of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Tyler.
